Books I’ve read and my Thoughts on them (MAJOR SPOILERS ALERT!!! >-< )

Hey guys! As you know, I read a lot! And I’ve decided to create a page where I can talk about just books, nothing else.

My thoughts on…

  • Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare (it’s part of the Shadowhunter Novels).

So my thoughts on this novel… well, I have to admit that it’s not as good as the Mortal Instruments series. I mean, I love how characters from the previous series come out sometimes (Jem, he’s my favorite character from the Infernal Devices), but… the story line’s just not as good, you know what I mean?

Well, it’s still kind of interesting, so I want to finish the trilogy.

  • Warriors by Erin Hunter (Yes, I know it’s by six different people who love cats)

So, I started reading the Warriors series since fifth grade. I had a classmate from after school back in Taiwan who read the series, and he told me to try it out. But I never tried it until another classmate from school was reading it, and I tried it. It was really good, so I started reading the series. I was about halfway through the second arc when we came to America, so I finished it here. I haven’t read Crowfeather’s Trial yet, and I’m still waiting for the first book of the seventh arc to come out (sixth if you don’t count the Dawn of the Clans, which is a prequel arc).

The story for the first arc was the best one, though the third and fourth arc were interesting. The third arc was when Jayfeather and Lionblaze discovered they had powers, and the fourth arc was when Dovewing learned she had powers as well. I knew that some cats would have unusual powers granted by StarClan *cough cough Yellowfang/Mothflight*, but they were only mentioned in the Super Editions, until the third and fourth arc, when they were actually the main characters.

People ask who’s my favorite character. My answer would probably be Hawkfrost, Mapleshade, or… actually, scratch that. I don’t have a favorite character. And if you ask who’s my least favorite… I have no clue. Honestly, I respect a lot of the characters.

  • The Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

So I read the first book of the Mortal Instruments in a bookstore, and after that, I decided to read all six books. If I had to say I had a character that I liked… I’m not sure. Isabelle’s cool, and Alec and Magnus are great together, Jace reminds me of Rhysand from ACOTAR, and Aelin from Throne of Glass, so I like him. He’s funny in a sassy, flirtatious way. For some reason, I find Simon kind of nice and funny and sweet. Clary’s okay, I guess. Sebastian was a cool villain, but not the best character in the world.

But the Infernal Devices, on the other hand, I DO have a favorite character. And you probably know/guessed it (I wrote it on the top, or if you know me): JAMES/JEM CARSTAIRS!

I love him! He’s the best. He’s calm, composed, nice, sweet, polite, gentlemanly. Firm when need be, but otherwise handles things quite calmly. He can tolerate Will’s anger and annoying/funny comments, and he plays the violin. Jem is great! If he was a real person… StarClan, save me.

Jace is the splitting image of Will. He seems to keep shoving the person he loves away, and so does Jace (kind of). Only Will was because he thought he was cursed, while Jace was because he had Heavenly fire/thought he had Demon Blood.

Tessa is a bookworm, and I love that as well! I can relate to her, it’s just that her first few moments while escaping was kind of girly to me. Although Will did a great job making me laugh.

To be honest, I think I liked Jem even before I started the Infernal Devices. I saw him on the book cover (the one where he was playing his violin, not the old one where he holds his Jade cane sword) when I was looking up the Infernal Devices, and I saw him playing his violin. Also the fact that my friends said that he liked music. I knew it was set in the Victorian Era, so I knew there was probably only classical music. And my friend said that he was Chinese (he spoke Mandarin in quite a few scenes in the book, and I got so excited whenever I read them because I knew what they meant!)

Just this one scene where he first spoke Mandarin to Tessa kind of ticked me off. He said, “Ni hen Piao Liang.” which meant “you are very beautiful” but when Tessa asked what he meant, you know what he said? “You’re hair’s falling.”

I literally smacked myself in the face and muttered, “Jem, what the hell was that? Ugh…” And it also made me want to leap into the book, shake him violently and ask him “WHY???!!!” over and over again in Chinese, and tell Tessa what it actually meant.

Of course, the second time he said it, he actually explained that it mean “you are very beautiful.” but, if you ask me, he should’ve said that at the very beginning…

But anyways, he comes out in the end of City of Heavenly Fire, and comes out a few times in Lady Midnight, so… I like it!

Of course, I read the Mortal Instruments before I read the Infernal Devices, so I never knew he was Brother Zachariah until… like… after I looked it up (which was when I was in the middle of City of Heavenly Fire and the Clockwork Princess). I was like: “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

I was screaming at myself, “HE WAS FREAKING BROTHER ZACHARIAH THE ENTIRE TIME, AND I NEVER KNEW!!!!!!!????????”

Of course, after I freaked out, I searched up the movie for the City of Bones. I watched a few clips on YouTube. I wanted to watch it, but at the same time, I was scared that it was going to end up like the Percy Jackson movie. For those of you who have read and watched the Percy Jackson books and movies, you’ll know what I mean.

  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians/Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan.

So, when I watched the movie… I went crazy. I don’t know if you all agree with me, BUT THE MOVIE WAS HORRIBLE! H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do have a favorite character from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians. His name is Nico Di Angelo! I guess it’s because he’s all dark and serious, and he’s an introvert. I guess I can relate to his introvert life and seriousness.

The other character that I learned to like was Leonidas Valdez. He’s cheesy, cheerful, sassy, and funny! Although I can be serious, I do appreciate character humor. It’s something that no one else gets about me. There are so many scenes when Leo did hilarious things, like the time he had to draw tattoos and waltz into the group of nymphs with shades.

Yes, I also like Annabeth Chase and Piper McLean, and I appreciate strong heroines. But I just found their personalities okay-ish.

  •   Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger

Okay, I only have one thing to say. The books kind of get worse as they go. I mean, the first few books were good, but after Lodestar, I was kind of disappointed. I DO NOT like the fact that she didn’t get Sophie with someone yet! Yes, she and Dex kissed, and she and Fitz were THIS CLOSE to confessing their crushes on each other! BUT THEY DIDN’T!!!!!!!!!

I was trembling when I was holding Flashback! AND THEY JUST HAD TO NOT CONFESS!!!!!!!!!

Oh, by the way, if you guys ask me which team I’m on, team Keefe all the way!

  • Throne of Glass/ACOTAR by Sarah J. Maas

I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN AELIN WAS THROWN INTO PRYTHIAN FOR THAT FRACTION OF A SECOND AND SAW RHYS AND FEYRE!!!!!!!!!!! OR WAS IT CASSIAN AND NESTA???? BECAUSE AT THE END OF A COURT OF FROST AND STARLIGHT, CASSIAN TOLD NESTA THAT SHE WAS GOING TO THE ILLYRIAN MOUNTAINS WITH HIM!!!!!!!!!

I was really excited, actually.
